How to Stop Receiving Spam Mail Immediately
I truly hate spam email. I always have done and always will do.
I hate it when I hear a new email come in and then go to check my inbox only to find some message sat there with a ridiculous subject line.
Obviously this junk is sent by some moron, probably on the other side of the world, who couldn't care less if he wastes my time or not.
This idiot spammer is hoping for just one or two out of the millions of emails he sends out to find a gullible customer who will buy whatever he is selling.
And unbelievably there are people who will buy products advertised via spam emails and make it worth the spammers' time to send them.
Sadly a lot of junk filters that are included with popular email services can trap real email as well as the junk.
If you receive thousands of emails per day it's very difficult to sort through them all so you may miss many of your legitimate emails.
For a long time I figured that although spam email is a waste of my time, it was something I would have to just "put up with" - until I looked into it seriously.
The problem you face when trying to eradicate spam is stopping false positives (making sure you don't flag real email as spam).
You need to correctly identify the spammers and block their emails but allow the bonafide emails through.
In other words, you need a reliable method of identifying real email and the senders of real email.
And when you've identified the real email, you need to be able to give the sender permission to have his or her emails land in your inbox each and every time.
This process is basically what an email white-listing service does.
In the vast majority of cases, email spammers use false addresses. By using false addresses they will never receive any emails you may send them.
This makes any "please unsubscribe me" emails to be completely useless, not that a spammer would pay any attention anyway.
However, those who send genuine, non-commercial email, will usually use a real email address. After all, they will probably want to get a reply from you!
Therefore we can conclude that spammers use false addresses and will not receive any replies you send but real people will use real addresses and will receive your reply.
So all you need to do is provide a facility for real email senders to verify that they aren't spammers. This is simple because they use real email addresses and so you can send them an email asking them to prove their authenticity.
The service I use to cut out spam email is called "SpamArrest".
This is a web-based service and it works as follows:
(1) SpamArrest collects all the email from your email server at regular intervals. If there is email from a "verified sender" it is delivered straight to the inbox.
(2) If SpamArrest finds an email from an unverified sender, it sends an email to that email address asking the sender to complete a simple verification process. The process involves visiting a webpage and filling in a small box with the letters shown in an image - a "Captcha" code.
(3) When the sender fills in the form correctly, his/her email address is added to the verified sender list and the email they sent is placed in the inbox ready for me to read.
(4) Any unverified email is kept in the "Unverified" folder for 7 days (or however many days you specify) before being deleted.
This white-listing service works because legitimate senders will receive the verification email that SpamArrest sends whilst email spammers, using false addresses, will never be able to verify that their emails are authentic.
I've been using SpamArrest now for several years and I am no longer plagued by spam email.
My friends, family and business associates are in the "verified" senders list so their email is always delivered to my inbox.
Yuri, the Russian spammer, will never be "verified" and so I never see his emails anymore.
Old schoolfriends, should they email me for the first time, will be able to fill out the verification form and have their email placed in my inbox.
It's a perfect service to use to stop spam emails immediately.
